Programs & Classes: BJJ FOR KIDS & TEENS
A Jiu Jitsu program designed for kids and teens
Fun, Safe, and Effective
Fundamentals Class
Kids jiu jitsu class shouldn't be just like the adult class. It should be effective, but it should also be fun! The kids and teens programs will focus on the fundamentals, which are the most important, most effective, and highest percentage techniques used to physically control and manipulate another person. Everyone will learn how to defend themselves from bullies and how to safely and effectively roll against other people in the academy and in a competition setting. They will learn basic and effective judo and wrestling takedowns so they can safely take the fight to the ground. We will take them step by step through all the major positions and techniques in an easy-to-understand and engaging way.
Safety and fun are top priorities in kids' classes. Students will also learn important life skills such as determination, self-confidence, creative problem-solving under stress, loyalty, hard work, integrity, honesty, self-discipline, and emotional control. Jiu-jitsu class will provide a positive physical outlet, and it will prepare everyone to be successful in their future endeavors.

Personal Hygiene
Jiu Jitsu is practiced in very close proximity to other people. This makes good personal hygiene super important. No one wants to train with someone who is unclean and smells bad. There are a few things you can do to make sure you don't develop a reputation for being the "stinky person" in class.
- Shower before and after class. This will not only keep you smelling good, but it's important to wash your body after class to prevent anything from sitting on your skin. We have two showers available for people coming straight from work.
- Brush your teeth before class. Having minty, fresh breath will go a long way with your training partners.
- Wear deodorant. Bad body odor is not something you want to be remembered for.
- Clip your finger and toenails. This is important because if your fingernails and toenails aren't trimmed, you can actually scratch people and cut them. So, this can actually be a bit of a safety issue, especially when there is a bunch of sweaty people on the mats. You don't want to have any breaks in the skin and allow any bacteria or anything else entering the body that's not supposed to.
- Wash your gi. This is very important. Some people allow their gi to sit in their gym bag overnight or even multiple days at a time before washing it. This is a terrible idea. Washing your gi after class is mandatory. If you let your gi sit for too long, bacteria will begin to grow, and your gi will start to develop a permanent smell. This smell is something we call "gi funk." Create a good habit of washing your gi after every single training session, no matter what. This will also help maintain your gi properly and allow it to last without developing the dreaded gi funk for many years of hard training.

We will talk about verbal de-escalation tactics, confidence in the face of adversity, emotional control, mental toughness, and proper outlets and resources available to them. On top of this, we will of course cover all the techniques available to confidently physically engage a bully when all other resources and outlets have been exhausted.
